# Essential 3D Printer Maintenance A 3D printer is a machine with moving parts. If you don't maintain it, it will break. ## 1. Every Month: Lubrication * **Z-Rods (Lead Screws):** Clean old grease with a paper towel and apply new **PTFE-based grease** (Super Lube). * **Linear Rails:** Apply light machine oil (sewing machine oil) to the carriage blocks. * **Wheels:** Check for dust buildup and wipe clean. ## 2. Every 3 Months: Belts & Bolts * **Check Belt Tension:** Belts stretch over time. Retighten them until they pluck like a guitar string. * **Check Eccentric Nuts:** Wobble the print head. If it's loose, tighten the eccentric nut. * **Bolt Check:** Go around the frame and ensure all screws are tight. Vibration loosens them. ## 3. As Needed: Nozzle & Fans * **Fans:** Use compressed air to blow dust out of the cooling fans. Dust kills fans. * **Bed Cleaning:** Wash PEI sheets with dish soap and water to renew adhesion.
