# Post-Processing: Finishing Your Prints Your print is done, but is it finished? Here is how to make it look professional. ## 1. Removing Supports * **Tools:** Flush cutters and needle-nose pliers. * **Technique:** Don't rip! Crush the support structure with pliers to weaken it, then pull gently. * **Safety:** Wear safety glasses. Support material flies everywhere. ## 2. Sanding The key to a smooth paint job. * **Start Coarse:** 120 or 220 grit sandpaper to remove layer lines. * **Go Fine:** 400 grit -> 600 grit -> 1000 grit. * **Wet Sanding:** Dip the sandpaper in water. It prevents the plastic from melting and keeps dust down. ## 3. Painting 1. **Filler Primer:** Use "Filler Primer" spray paint. It fills in the tiny layer lines. 2. **Sand Again:** Sand the primer smooth. 3. **Paint:** Acrylic paints (miniature paints) or spray paints work best on PLA. ## 4. Smoothing (Chemicals) * **ABS/ASA:** Acetone Vapor Smoothing makes prints look like injection molded plastic. **DANGEROUS** (Flammable). * **PVB:** Can be smoothed with Isopropyl Alcohol. * **PLA:** Cannot be easily chemically smoothed. Use epoxy coating (XTC-3D) instead.
